“The Green Door” Art Group evolved through Castleblayney’s Social Services’ “55’s Club”, which meets here in Íontas every week. It is a voluntary organisation for the benefit of our local senior citizens. Originally, we took part in Positive Age’s art programme, (aimed at senior citizen communities) way back in September/October 2005, and with generous sponsorship from Monaghan VEC, we got started into painting as a group on a regular basis. We now have two classes running every Wednesday, one in the morning, and the other in the afternoon. Most members of our group will tell you that until they joined, they had never painted before, or did not have the slightest notion that they could paint, or could end up enjoying it so much!

 

As Painting has no age limits, it can be enjoyed by everyone, and with no drawing skills required, it is easy to get started, and get hooked! Our little group has gone from strength to strength, and we welcome new members to join us anytime. Just come along… You would be most welcome, and you will surprise yourself! This exhibition will give you an insight into the talent that has, up until now, laid hidden within our senior community. We hope you enjoy viewing our paintings, and perhaps it will spark an interest in you to come along and give it a go yourself.

Initially meeting in St. Mary’s Hospital in Blayney, and named after the Iconic Green door of the on site church, the group now calls Íontas its home, and we were very proud to host this wonderful exhibition from such a talented group of locals. This Art group displayed a magnificent array of paintings, from every kind, medium, subject, size and style. Even more impressive still, is the fact that over 40 artists contributed to the exhibition! It was extremely well received by the people of Castleblayney.
