DEMENTIA ADVISER DROP-IN INFORMATION HUB IN CO MONAGHAN TO HOST A SERIES OF FREE TALKS ON DEMENTIA

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) opened their Dementia Information Hub at the Íontas Arts Centre in Castleblayney in 2016.

Maeve Montgomery, Dementia Adviser for Cavan/Monaghan/Louth operates the drop-in service on the last Friday of each month, where people who have a dementia diagnosis or family members who are caring for someone with dementia can call in and have a chat with Maeve to address their concerns and get information on dementia. This is a free service and no appointment is necessary.

As part of the Information Hub beginning on August 25th, Maeve will be giving a series of talks titled “Little Changes Make a Big Difference”. These talks are open to all and Maeve will have a question and answers session afterwards. The talks are free to all but booking is required to reserve a place.

  • 25th August at 11am – ‘Introduction to Dementia’ followed by a Q&A

  • 29th September at 11am - ‘Eating and Dementia’ followed by a Q&A

  • 27th October at 11am - ‘Continence and Dementia’ followed by a Q&A

Maeve Montgomery, ASI Dementia Adviser for Cavan/Monaghan/Louth says: “From the discussions I’ve had with people during our drop-in service I’ve identified a number of common subjects that I feel necessitate further discussion. It’s so important for people to have as much information as possible when they are faced with a dementia diagnosis so they can continue to live life to the full and that is what I aim to do with my series of talks”.

If you would like to reserve a place please contact Maeve Montgomery on 087 748 9258 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The ASI urges people who have a dementia diagnosis or family members who are caring for someone with dementia to call in to Íontas Arts Centre in Castleblayney and have a chat with Maeve.

FOR LEANNE DONATIONS

Donate here.

As many of you know our friend and colleague Leanne Gallagher experienced a serious brain injury in October 2016. Thanks to the support of medical staff and through her own determination Leanne is recovering. However, this will be a long process and Leanne will require support as she adapts to her new circumstances. With this in mind a group of friends and colleagues have formed a committee named ‘For Leanne’ to fundraise on behalf of her and her young family.

Monaghan County Library Services aim to provide access to all members of our Community. However, we realise that the hustle and bustle of the modern library is not a comfortable environment for everybody, especially those with autism or sensory issues.

All of our Branch Libraries are now offering the opportunity to avail of a quiet, private visit. We can ensure bright lights are switched off and background noise is kept to a minimum.

People with sensory issues & Familiesthat include a Child who has Autism are welcome to book a private visit before the Library opens to the Public.

Visits must be booked in advance and times will be subject to individual Branch Library opening hours.

Please can contact your local branch Library to arrange a visit:
